Mitteldeutsche Flughafen launches winter season timetable • More flights from Leipzig/Halle and Dresden

From Leipzig/Halle, airlines and tour operators will be offering flights to 30 destinations in 16 countries. Flight numbers are up by 16 per cent on last winter, to up to 198 flights a week. This also includes departures to Split and Dubrovnik, two new destinations in this year’s winter timetable. These routes will be operated with Airbus A320s by Aegean Airlines, Greece’s largest airline, on behalf of the tour operator Reiseservice Deutschland. Among the new non-stop destinations from Leipzig/Halle this winter will also be Paphos in Cyprus, operated by the tour operator FTI. FTI will also be running a second weekly long-haul flight to Dubai with Condor this winter. Flights will depart on Mondays and Fridays.

Also featuring in this year’s winter timetable for the first time are Air Malta flights. The Maltese airline will be flying between Leipzig/Halle Airport and the Mediterranean island state on Wednesdays from 31 October. The aircraft used on these flights will be Airbus A320s. This new route gives people the opportunity to discover the many tourist highlights Malta has to offer, whether they are travelling on their own or on a package holiday.

Other holiday flights take holidaymakers to the following countries: Spain (Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Majorca, Tenerife), Egypt (Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Sharm el Sheikh), Morocco (Agadir, Marrakesh), Tunisia (Djerba, Monastir), Turkey (Antalya, Istanbul), Greece (Heraklion) and Portugal (Madeira).

Non-stop flights are available to five German destinations from Leipzig/Halle. Lufthansa flies to Frankfurt and Munich (up to 5x daily each). Eurowings has up to 4 daily flights to Düsseldorf and up to two each to Cologne Bonn and Stuttgart.

Flights to other European cities include Austrian Airlines to Vienna (up to 2x daily), Turkish Airlines to Istanbul (6x weekly), SWISS to Zurich (5x weekly), Ryanair to London Stansted (3x weekly) and Pobeda to Moscow Vnukovo (3x weekly).

At Dresden Airport there will be up to 189 departures a week to 22 destinations in 9 countries this winter – representing a 9 per cent increase in weekly departures on last year’s winter season. For the first time, Germania is now introducing winter flights to Saint Petersburg alongside its summer season departures. From 13 December, the green-and-white aircraft will depart for Russia’s cultural metropolis at 06:00 on Mondays and Thursdays. Germania will also continue flying to Barcelona this winter. The airline will depart for the Catalonian capital city every Friday and Sunday from 30 November. Germania will also be adding another flight on its Madeira route from mid-December, providing a non-stop connection from Dresden to this popular hiking destination on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Other holiday destinations in the upcoming winter season are Majorca, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Faro, Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and Heraklion.

Passengers flying from Dresden have a choice of five destinations within Germany. Lufthansa flies from Dresden to both Frankfurt and Munich up to 5x daily. The Lufthansa-subsidiary Eurowings links the Dresden region with its hub airports at Düsseldorf (up to 4x daily), Stuttgart (up to 3x daily) and Cologne Bonn (up to 3x daily).

Saxony’s state capital is also very well connected to several other major European hubs. There are daily flights with Aeroflot to Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow and with KLM to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. Lufthansa subsidiary SWISS departs for Zurich up to twice daily and EasyJet flies to Basel, also in Switzerland, up to four times a week.
