Events at Dresden Airport in the 4th quarter

30 September to 31 October
Airport on Ice – On your blades, get set, go!

As the weather becomes increasingly autumnal, Airport on Ice is a great opportunity to have fun and get some exercise with family, friends, the kids or work colleagues. For ice skating fans, we will be installing a 200 m2 artificial ice rink on the Conference level. If you don’t fancy your chances on the “ice”, why not put your ice stock (curling) skills to the test on our 20 metre rink. All ages and abilities welcome. There will be ice stocks available for both children and adults – perfect for nail-biting contests for up to eight people.

3 October
Art, antique and vintage market

Browse, haggle and bargain! Dresden Airport and Sächsische Zeitung have pleasure in inviting you to this fun event for the whole family from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is free (excluding themed tours, artificial ice rink and ice stock rink). If you are arriving by car, please use the multi-storey car park. You can park there all day for a special flat rate of just €3.

Set-up is between 07:00 and 08:30. Stalls offering children’s items can be set up from 08:00 onwards. Open to everyone! To register for a pitch, phone +49 (0)351 4864 2443 or email troedelmarkt@sz-pinnwand.de.  A 3 metre pitch costs just €25.

Terminal – West Wing (level 0)

  • Books, antiques, glass, porcelain, household items, LPs, small items of furniture, art, pictures, crafts and collectors’ pieces such as historic picture postcards of the region.
  • Experts will be on hand to value antiques, antiquarian books and, of course, aviation-related collectors’ objects completely free of charge.
  • This area has ground-level vehicle access for stallholders.

Doors open for the Mouse!

Dresden Airport will be running a Mini Tour on Door Opener Day organised by the popular TV series Sendung mit der Maus. Hundreds of businesses, clubs and organisations across the country that would otherwise be closed to the public are opening their doors to children and families. All 50 places have already sold out!

1, 2 and 6-12 October
Airport tours in Saxony’s autumn school holidays

Participants on the 90-minute Maxi tours will be given a brief tour of the terminal, go through a security check and take a bus ride onto the apron to watch aircraft being handled. The highlight of these tours is a visit to the airport’s fire station.

28 October
Travel Day

Travel Day is ideal for a Sunday trip to the airport with the whole family. The many travel agencies in the terminal are open from 10:00 to 18:00 and offer everything from package tours and long-haul holidays to last-minute bargains, all with expert advice.

Besides planning your holiday for this winter and next summer, you can also come and enjoy Airport on Ice. Skating fans of any age can take to the ice on the 200 m² artificial ice rink on the Conference level. Skates can be hired at the venue.

If you are arriving by car, you can park in the multi-storey car park at the special flat rate of just €4 for the day.


31 October
Halloween Experience Tours

Besides the Airport on Ice finale with ghoulish face painting and themed art and craft fun, Customer Service is also putting on a series of Halloween Experience Tours. Participants will first pass through security and will then board a bus to travel out over the apron. A guide will explain the various processes involved in aircraft handling. Next, visitors will make a detour to the technology hangar, where the elephant, snow blower and friends are ready and waiting for their winter service.
 
The highlight of the two-hour tour is the visit to the fire station – home to the impressive Panther 8x8. After a demonstration of this 44-ton colossus, the airport fire service will simulate a realistic household fire. Children can also test their skills spraying pumpkin targets and grill marshmallows over a fire bowl. The Gate 14 snack bar will be serving mulled wine and all-you-can-drink fruit punch along with Bratwurst hot dogs and rolls.

Every participant will also have the opportunity to grab a surprise Halloween bag containing airport souvenirs and sweet and savoury surprises.

Wanderlust – the travel talks

In collaboration with DIAMIR Erlebnisreisen, Dresden Airport is putting on a series of exciting travel talks (in German) that are guaranteed to spark your wanderlust. A range of mouthwatering foods will be available from ElbeZeit GmbH, inspired by the destination covered in each talk. Dates and subjects:

Jazz in the terminal: Céline Rudolph – Pearls (pre-release)

As part of the ever popular Dresden Jazz Days, the airport becomes a grand stage for Céline Rudolph. She presents her new album, Pearls, as a pre-release in the terminal.

The half-German, half-French singer, improviser and composer from Berlin has been seen as one of the most exciting new discoveries in vocal jazz in recent years, not least because of the way she takes scat singing to a whole new level. Celebrated by press and audiences alike, Céline Rudolph surprises and fascinates with her highly atmospheric, melodic vocal style, for which she was the first ever recipient of the Echo Jazz “National Female Vocalist” prize.

Airport-by-Night Tours at Advent

Dresden Airport is running another series of its popular Airport-by-Night Tours in the run-up to Christmas. These atmospheric tours kick off with a festive get-together with mulled wine, kids’ punch and Christmas biscuits. This will be followed by a short guided walk of the terminal, a security check and a bus trip across the illuminated apron to watch aircraft being handled. Participants will also visit the fire station and the winter service hangar.

24 December
Santa Claus is coming to town!

The Christmas Air jet from Lapland (flight no. DRS2412) packed full of Christmas presents lands in Dresden in the morning. Children can watch Santa Claus alighting from his plane and waving. Then it’s off to the visitor platform in the terminal where there will be plenty of fun and games, Christmas carols, poems and little Christmas presents.

29-30 December
Model railway exhibition

It’s full steam ahead at the fourth model railway exhibition to be held at the Dresden Airport terminal. Clubs and individuals will be presenting their layouts.

  • Layouts ranging from N to IIm gauge, from small private layouts to large club designs, with analogue and digital controls
