Development of traffic at the Central German Airports of Leipzig/Halle and Dresden between January and September

3,116,519 passengers in all passed through the airports of Leipzig/Halle and Dresden during the first nine months of the year. This represented a growth rate of 5.7 percent compared to the previous year. The number of aircraft movements rose by 3.8 percent to 74,122 take-offs and landings.

The number of passengers at Leipzig/Halle Airport increased by 6.9 percent between January and September in comparison with the previous year and reached a figure of 1,819,955. The volume of traffic rose by 6.8 percent to 51,295 aircraft movements.

Air freight handling operations at Germany’s second-largest air cargo hub registered growth of 7.7 percent compared to the previous year during the first nine months and reached a figure of 828,163.1 tonnes. This means that growth is continuing at Europe’s fifth-largest freight airport for the thirteenth year in succession.

1,296,564 passengers passed through Dresden Airport during the period between January and September, an increase of 4.1 percent. The number of take-offs and landings was 2.3 percent higher than in the previous year and reached a figure of 22,827.

This growth at both the airports primarily comes from the positive developments in scheduled and tourist traffic. Almost all the destinations, to which aircraft operate, recorded an increase in demand.

The number of passengers flying to Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Italy and Bulgaria from Leipzig/Halle Airport, for example, all increased.

Growth at Dresden Airport was particularly evident on flights to destinations in Egypt, Portugal and Greece.
