Checking your travel documents
Before starting your journey, make sure you have all your documents with you and that they are still valid:
- Passport, ID card, driving license (if you want to hire a car)
- Visa (for international flights)
- Air ticket
- Credit card, travellers’ cheques
- Details of foreign health insurance, proof of vaccinations
Make copies of all your most important travel documents. Take one copy with you in your suitcase and leave one at home. Another possibility would be to scan your documents and e-mail the scanned copy to your own e-mail address. Then you will always have a copy of your documents to hand in your e-mail inbox and outbox.
Ticket and bording card
You can buy your ticket from any travel agency, airline office or online. The sample ticket shown contains the following information:
- Name of airline: Lufthansa
- Name of passenger: Max Mustermann
- Departure airport: DRS (Dresden)
- Destination airport: FRA (Frankfurt)
- Flight number: LH 1055
- Date: May 31
- Seat: 21D (row 21, seat D)
- Hand baggage: max. 1 item
You will be given your boarding card at the check-in counter. You will need to present this to pass through security control and to board the plane. Please pay special attention to the boarding time specified on your boarding card. This is the latest time by which you must arrive at the departure gate. On the sample boarding card (on the right of the picture), this is gate 10 and the boarding time starts at 10:50.
