The Dresden International Congress Centre is one of the most beautiful and most modern of its kind in Europe. Situated directly on the banks of the River Elbe, it nestles between world famous buildings like the Semper Opera, the Zwinger and the Brühl Terrace. The Messe Dresden exhibition centre is also just a few minutes away from the historic city centre by car. The Dresden Airport Terminal boasts a state-of-the-art Conference and Event Centre with a panoramic view of the runway.

Aviation industry in Dresden
In 2009 there were almost 3,000 people working at Dresden International Airport, many of whom employed by the many long-established aviation firms here. EADS Elbe Flugzeugwerke converts Airbus passenger aircraft into cargo planes. IABG conducts fatigue tests on the Airbus A30-800, the world's biggest passenger aircraft, and on the military Airbus A400M. IMA develops testing technologies and systems for the traffic engineering sectors such as aerospace, railway and automotive engineering, as well as for the plastics and metal industries and other branches of industry.
There are also several other specialist aviation firms at the airport. Also located here is the Kompetenzzentrum Luft und Raumfahrttechnik Sachsen/Thüringen e.V. (Centre of Excellence for Aerospace Engineering in Saxony/Thuringia, LRT) which represents the interests of the aerospace companies and organisations in the Free States of Saxony and Thuringia, boosting the industry's regional network.

Logistics hub at Dresden Airport
Dresden International Airport has close links to the logistics chains of many different carriers and haulage companies. At present the airport's cargo handling centre is capable of handling about 10,000 tonnes of cargo and airmail a year. All cargo is handled by PortGround GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding. The international logistics services provider DB Schenker also has offices at the airport. DB Schenker delivers spare parts and complete production systems to the semiconductor industry.
