Security

Travelling by plane is one of the safest ways of covering large distances. The joint efforts of airports, aeronautical industry, airlines, authorities and service companies are put into guaranteeing this high level of safety in aviation. Airport security includes any measures to prevent crimes and terrorist attacks that might threaten civil aviation. Airport security should not be mixed up with air traffic control, which ensures safe aircraft movements in the air.

Dresden Airport also faces various safety and security requirements and puts major investments into safety measures. These investments go for example to staff training and the fire brigade's equipment and form one of the many commitments made by Dresden Airport to ensure air traffic is safe at all times. The powerful fire engines can take the fire-fighters to any point of the airport within two minutes, thus guaranteeing instant aid in emergencies. Furthermore, the airport fire brigade provides assistance in a number of services which are not always immediately seen by the public. This includes technical aid, removal of hazardous materials, transportation of disabled or ill people and medical aid.

The winter service team guarantees aircraft can take off and land safely at Dresden Airport in the winter season. They have to keep an area which roughly equals the area of 68 football grounds free from ice and snow – 24 hours a day.
