Dresden - London nonstop: British Airways flies daily to Gatwick Airport

From 25 May 2007, passengers will be able to fly nonstop from Dresden to London for the first time. As of the first day of its summer timetable, British Airways will be flying a daily nonstop flight to Gatwick Airport. The 147-seater Boeing 737-400 will land at 15:05 in Saxony’s capital city seven days a week. The flight to London Gatwick will leave Dresden at 15:40.

Speaking about the new nonstop flight from Dresden to London, Dr. Michael Hupe, Managing Director of Flughafen Dresden GmbH, says:

“We are delighted that a world famous airline like British Airways has decided to fly to Dresden. This gives a significant boost to the development of European connections to and from Dresden. I hope that the direct flight will be extremely popular with both business and leisure passengers from Saxony, South Brandenburg, Lower Silesia and Northern Bohemia.

The airline offers an extremely attractive price/performance ratio. As one of London’s major airports, Gatwick offers by far the cheapest and quickest connections to the centre of London.

The new route will also boost incoming tourism into Dresden. Dresden-Werbung und Tourismus GmbH, Tourismus Marketing Gesellschaft Sachsen mbH and Dresden Convention Bureau e.V., who supported our efforts to win the airline extremely actively, will be making the most of the new flight route to promote Dresden as a culture, business, science and conference city to the UK even more intensively. Since the renovation of the Frauenkirche, there has already been a great deal of contact between Saxony and the UK.”

British Airways return flights between Dresden and London are available from £78 including taxes (about €115). Booking for the new flights will open soon at www.britishairways.com and www.ba.com, by phone on +44 870 850 9850 and at all travel agencies.

The new London offering is attractive for leisure and business travellers alike. With the new direct flights, visitors will be able to access attractions like Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus and Tower Bridge from Dresden more quickly and easily than ever before. What is more, London Gatwick offers connecting flights to destinations all over the world. Its timetable includes more than 200 destinations on 90 airlines.

British Airways flies from London Gatwick to about 60 destinations including Atlanta, Dallas, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Houston, Manchester, Newcastle, Orlando, Philadelphia and Reykjavik. All British Airways flights, including those to and from Dresden, are handled in the North Terminal, which is linked to the South Terminal by rail. There are excellent shopping facilities in both terminals.

Gatwick Airport (www.gatwickairport.com) is located about 40 km south of London. The Gatwick Express train takes visitors into the heart of London in just 30 minutes. Nonstop trains to Victoria Station depart from the airport every 15 minutes. A single ticket costs £14, and a return journey £25. From Victoria Station travellers can change onto the District Line, Circle Line and Victoria Line underground lines. Detailed information, timetables and prices can be obtained at www.gatwickexpress.com.

Gatwick is London’s second biggest airport, and the sixth biggest in Europe. About 32 million passengers were handled there in 2005.
